BEYOND THE BOARDROOM

Art fires the senses and stimulates the imagination, leading to creative and independent thinking. It is no surprise then that organisations that pride themselves on their ability to think laterally and problem solve even the most complex business processes, are turning to free-form art in the boardroom to deliver inspiration and innovation outside these walls.

Guy Hawson is a Sydney based artist who has been painting professionally since 1992, and has recently completed works for top tier organisations such McKinsey & Co. Guy works in a number of styles which include abstract, figurative and landscape. Recent themes have included Rockpools; Captain Cook; and The Anzacs. The latest commission of Guy's work; a series of abstracts, is now hanging in the boardrooms of McKinsey & Company.

"The commission from McKinsey was a joy. The brief was open and we had time to develop themes. I worked together with the client for the first part of this year to prepare designs, and really enjoyed the scope of the project. In all I did four large abstracts lending each boardroom a different feel" says Hawson.

A number of his paintings are hanging in public spaces around Sydney for the discerning eye to find and enjoy. The foyer of 80 William Street boasts two early abstracts, and the Arthouse in Pitt Street displays the infamous "Fairies" which leave much to the imagination about what happens when the lights go down.

Andrew Utiger, who commissioned the "Fairies", says "Guy's work is always fresh and imaginative; he has the gift of producing exciting and original works that evoke a mood that complements and enhances the spaces they are commissioned for."

So, for art which will take you beyond filling a space on a wall, take the time to check out Hawson's work on his website at www.guyhawson.com.au
